BAGHDAD ? Iraqi police say explosion of a car bomb parked outside a shopping area in southwestern Baghdad has killed 5 people and wounded 22.
A Baghdad policeman said the Wednesday night blast appeared to target a passing security patrol in the capital's mixed Sunni-Shiite neighborhood of Jihad. Five policemen were wounded in the explosion.
A medic at al-Yarmouk hospital confirmed the casualties. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
The blast hit shoppers on a balmy evening as many Iraqis celebrated the Eid holiday that follows a month of fasting and prayer during Ramadan. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Violence has dropped in Iraq, but deadly attacks still happen almost every day.
